Started the festival by offering food to monks and performing a religious ceremony in memory of deceased love ones.
Young people pour lustral water on the palms of their elders ( mum , dad , grand-mum-dad, uncle-aunt etc.) and teachers as a gesture of respect.The water means a symbol of purity that washes away wrongdoing. Many represents an act of seeking pardon from the elderly and asking for their blessing.
Like every other festival, people also make merit by releasing caged birds, fish and other animal in captivity.
The streets of Bangkok and the big province such as Chiangmai, cool down during the Songkran festival, when watery battles erup around the city to fight of the tropical April heat.
Believe it or not ......at this time about one week before Songkran there will be rain for few days. I've remembered it since I was young.
In Bangkok, there will have many activities especially at Sanam Luang and Khao-san Road.
.............hours before the splashing starts, is the grandest site of merit-making when throngs of devout Buddhist come to give alms to the monks is a spectacular displays of faith. At temple around the city people congregate to perform other religious ceremonies, such as sprinkling holy water on images of Buddha and listening to the sermons. At the present you can do sprinkling pure water on Buddha image at many department stores too. Don't forget to make a wish!!!

For me and the most of Bangkokians.......The festival..... any festival means long holidays less traffic...............COOL ENOUGH !!! If you have enough time.... fly to join us every year in April.....I think everything will be fine ..... Be ready.....
